When you are no longer just nourishing your own body, but also providing for the nutritional needs of a growing baby’s development, what you put on your plate becomes especially important. During pregnancy, cell division and tissue development occur at an incredible pace: bones, muscles, the nervous system, and internal organs are formed and grow – and the maternal body provides the nutrients required for this. Meanwhile, the mother's body itself undergoes an extraordinary transformation: it builds and maintains the placenta, significantly increases its blood volume, and adapts to the constantly changing needs of the developing fetus.

A pregnant woman's body is capable of amazing things. A balanced diet primarily supports this, yet it is worth paying special attention to the intake of certain nutrients during this period. For example, the recommended daily choline intake during pregnancy corresponds roughly to the choline content of 3–4 eggs, and to ensure adequate folate intake, one must consciously choose folate-rich foods – while folic acid supplementation is specifically recommended around the time of conception.

A well-formulated prenatal vitamin does not replace a varied diet. It complements it, and helps ensure those micronutrients for which there is a higher need or a requirement for reliable, regular intake during this special time. A prenatal vitamin helps to safely reach the recommended daily levels of micronutrients, so that neither our baby nor we suffer from any deficiency.

Why choose Puura MaMa?

  • Scientifically based, complex composition: formulated with the increased nutritional needs during pregnancy and modern professional recommendations in mind, it contains 13 types of vitamins and 5 minerals and trace elements, supplemented with choline, lactoferrin, DHA, and EPA.
  • High DHA content: its daily dose provides 500 mg of DHA and 250 mg of EPA. DHA intake during pregnancy contributes to the proper development of the fetus's brain and eyes.

Professional considerations

In addition to essential vitamins and minerals, Puura MaMa contains carefully selected ingredients such as choline, DHA, and lactoferrin, supplementing your diet during pregnancy based on the latest scientific insights.

Fetal nervous system

The development of the fetal nervous system is extremely intensive from the earliest stages of pregnancy, which is why adequate nutrient intake is particularly important during this period.

Folate contributes to the growth of maternal tissue during pregnancy and plays a role in the process of cell division. Adequate folate levels are of paramount importance for the developing fetus as early as the periconceptional period. Puura MaMa contains both folic acid and active methylfolate.

Choline is a nutrient that participates in the building of cell membranes and numerous essential physiological processes. In recent years, increasing scientific attention has been directed towards its importance during pregnancy; nevertheless, many prenatal vitamins contain it either not at all or only in small amounts.

DHA is an important structural component of the developing nervous system. Maternal DHA intake contributes to the normal development of the fetal brain and eyes. Therefore, Puura MaMa also provides omega-3 fatty acids containing DHA and EPA.

Thoughtful support for maternal blood formation

During pregnancy, the maternal circulatory system undergoes significant changes: by the end of pregnancy, the volume of circulating blood can increase by as much as 40–50 percent. Red blood cell production requires iron and folate, among other things, which is why the body's iron requirements increase significantly as pregnancy progresses.

Higher doses of iron can increase the incidence of gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, abdominal discomfort, or constipation—which can be particularly unpleasant in the first trimester.

At the same time, individual iron requirements can vary significantly. One of the most important laboratory parameters for assessing iron stores is ferritin; therefore, it is advisable to consult your healthcare provider about checking your iron status and personalized iron supplementation if necessary.

For this reason, Puura MaMa contains a moderate amount of iron. The vitamin C in the formula enhances iron absorption, while lactoferrin is an additional, consciously chosen ingredient in the product.

Just the right amount

The goal of nutrient supplementation during pregnancy is not to take in the largest possible amount of everything in artificial form. It is far more important to provide the right nutrients in the right forms and thoughtful amounts, complementing your diet.

We have formulated Puura MaMa to align with the physiological needs of pregnancy, keeping both scientific evidence and daily tolerability in mind.
